Meet Our Podcast Host

Jennifer Alderman, PHD, RNC-OB, CNL, CNE, CHSE

Our host, Jennifer Alderman, PHD, RNC-OB, CNL, CNE, CHSE is a Clinical Associate Professor at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Nursing and co-chair of the INACSL Membership Committee. For more than a decade, Dr. Alderman has used simulation as an innovative teaching strategy, incorporating many modes of simulation including high fidelity, low fidelity, and virtual. Dr. Alderman has expertise in leadership, quality and safety, and interprofessional education, often using simulation to link these areas.

Episode One: The Impact of Virtual Learning on Simulation Education

In this episode, host Jennifer Alderman, PHD, RNC-OB, CNL, CNE, CHSE, Clinical Associate Professor at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Nursing talks with Dr. Margaret Verkuyl, NP, PHC, MN, Professor at Centennial College about effective leadership practices to navigate a time of rapid change, how virtual simulation will evolve beyond the current pandemic timeline, and how virtual learning outcomes compare to traditional learning methods in health professionals education.

 

Episode Two: The Role of Virtual Reality in Simulation

In this episode, Jennifer Alderman, PHD, RNC-OB, CNL, CNE, CHSE, Clinical Associate Professor at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Nursing talks with virtual reality experts VRpatients Nursing Product Supervisor & SME Tracy Chesney, PhD(c), MSN-Ed, CNE, CHSE, CHSOS and Associate Professor at Queen’s University Faculty of Health Sciences School of Nursing Dr. Marian Luctkar-Flude, RN, PhD, CCSNE, FCNEI. They discuss how virtual reality technology can be used as a scalable simulation learning tool to develop clinical decision-making and judgement skills like never before. Computer-based and headset-based virtual reality systems give students the unique opportunity to take a lead role on treating virtual patients in healthcare teaching simulations.

Episode Five: Rural IPE in Healthcare Simulation

In this episode, host Jennifer Alderman, PHD, RNC-OB, CNL, CNE, CHSE, Clinical Associate Professor at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Nursing talks with two IPE experts. Ann Scott, DNP, RN, CCRN-K, CNE and Robin Dawson, PhD, RN, CPNP-PC from the College of Nursing at the University of South Carolina discuss their experience with practicing sim-IPE (simulation enhanced interprofessional education) in rural environments without easy access to large academic medical centers and strategies for successful collaboration with other disciplines when not affiliated with an academic setting.
