Nicola Contreras, DNP, RN, CHSE A, is a nurse educator and simulation leader with experience advancing evidence based, learner centered simulation in academic and clinical environments. She currently serves as the Director of the Simulation Center and Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Biobehavioral Nursing & Health Informatics at the University of Washington School of Nursing, where she leads strategic simulation initiatives, faculty development, and modernization efforts to elevate practice ready clinical learning. With over a decade of simulation focused roles she has designed and facilitated simulation based curricula with a focus on designing and facilitating simulation-based learning experiences that foster clinical judgement and the use of simulation for the evaluation of competency. She has presented nationally and internationally on the use of simulation for onboarding new graduate nurses, the use of simulation to assess competency, and most recently the use of simulation as a teaching strategy to prepare learners for practice. Across her career, Nicola has demonstrated a passion for mentoring faculty, strengthening curriculum integration, and driving initiatives that ensure equitable, high quality experiential learning. She served as Chair of the Membership Committee for INACSL (2024–2025) and remains an active INACSL member.
